My first camera was a Smena film camera, a gift from my father when I was eight or nine. I photographed animals, my friends, my grandmother, our walks… pretty much anything that caught my eye. My friends used to tease me, saying, “Here comes the photographer!”, because I always had my camera with me.

Cameras have changed over the years, but my desire to take photographs has never faded. Along the way, I studied photography, attended courses and workshops, and explored the art of light and portraiture in particular.

Originally from Russia, I moved first to Germany and then to Italy, where I have been living for the past 20 years. Having lived in different countries has given me the opportunity to experience different cultures and meet people with different backgrounds. I speak Russian, Italian, English and Portuguese.

I enjoy being involved in creative and meaningful projects. One of them was Anime Frangibili, where I was invited to take part as a photographer. The project brought together the life stories of ten people, which I had the opportunity to portray through my photographs. It culminated in a beautiful exhibition in Milan.

Today, I photograph individuals, families and couples. I enjoy getting to know the people I photograph and finding a way to portray them that feels true to who they are.

I won’t try to turn you into someone you’re not. I want your photographs to look like you — not like an idealised version created in Photoshop.
